The Windham Foundation has teamed with the University of Vermont to host a regular lecture series in southern Vermont. Most lectures will take place at The Old Tavern at Grafton, a Windham Foundation company, and one of the nation's oldest operating inns.

The University of Vermont invites you to an evening with Tom Gilbert, Center for an Agricultural Economy, Board of Directors

Tom will present

Tom Gilbert, UVM Lecture Series, The Old Tavern at Grafton, Sept. 28, 2010“Local is Lucrative: The Local Food Movement and the Resurgence of the Hardwick Economy”

6 p.m.       Presentation (Phelps Barn at The Old Tavern)

7-9 p.m.     Dinner - The Old Tavern will offer its popular localvore dinner. (guests should make reservations directly by contacting The Old Tavern at 802-843-2231)

Tom Gilbert, member of the Center for an Agricultural Economy Board of Directors, will discuss the success the Center has realized so far in guiding the Northeast Kingdom and its Gateway Towns toward a sustainable, economical and ecological food system. The Center promotes consumer access to healthy, secure, affordable and locally-grown food and supports farmers and agricultural based businesses in developing reliable and efficient connections to local and regional markets.  Tom is the Executive Director of the Highfields Center for Composting, a Vermont-based non-profit focused on advancing sustainable food and agricultural systems through municipal and on-farm composting programs.
